Nous avons atterris en Thaïlande et avons deux jours pour nous acclimater à cette région du monde avant de rejoindre le Laos. Les matins sont brumeux, les journées lumineuses et chaudes, les soirées fraiches. We have landed in Thailand and have 2 days to get used to this new part of the world before going to Laos. Mornings are fogy, days sunny and warm, evening fresh.

Notre première surprise fut de recevoir un cadeau de la compagnie aérienne en l’honneur du 80ieme anniversaire du roi Bhumibol (ce qui signifie Force de la terre). Les effigies du roi sont partout, nous n’aurions pu le manquer. Je ne résiste au plaisir de vous livrer un poème écrit par un dignitaire en l’honneur du roi (en anglais dans le texte). To our surprise, we received a gift from the national airline to honor the 80^th birthday of HM king Bhumibol (which means strength of the earth°. His pictures are everywhere in the country, we could not have missed it. I found in a magazine a poem written in the king’s honor by the director of Thai Airways.

Always thinking in endless toil and worry

For the people’s well being

With due concern for the environment

In practical and sustainable ways

Always working with no vacation leave

No retirement

In lonely hours

And at times

A bridge over the Nation’s troubled waters

On this auspicious anniversary we extend to you

Our thanks, admiration, respect and love

In such simple matter as we can

Notre hôtel est situé à quelques kilomètres de Chiang Sean, une petite bourgade portuaire qui fait beaucoup de commerce avec la Chine (qui se situe quelques kilomètres plus au nord). Depuis la fenêtre de la chambre, nous voyons le Mékong. En forme de Y, le Laos se trouve de l’autre côté de la rive et le Myanmar (ancienne Birmanie) dans le V du Y. De plus, cette région a longtemps prospéré du commerce de l’opium. D’où le nom de triangle d’or.

Our hotel is not far away from Chiang Sean, a small harbor city with a lot of traffic with China (just a few kilometers up North on the river). From our bedroom’s widow, we can see the Mekong. It takes a Y shape. On the other side is Laos and in the V of the Y is Burma. This area has been known for a very long time for growing and selling opium. Hence the Golden Triangle’s name.

Ballades, visites de temples, massages Thaï, nous nous laissons déjà bercer par le rythme langoureux du Mékong. Short walks, temples’ visits, Thai massage, we are getting very easily used to the slow pace of life.
